In May 2017, the Acton Boxborough school committee voted to adopt an overarching sustainability policy including language from Get On Tap's original policy proposal! Check out the video below to better understand Get On Tap's campaign for this policy adoption.
To align with the new policy, Get On Tap has suggested the school committee enact the following procedures:
End district spending on imported water*
Discontinue purchase of bottled water for school-sponsored events
In cases prohibiting open containers, provide water using beverage dispensers and paper cups.
In cases allowing open containers, encourage attendees to utilize filler stations or water fountains.
Discontinue use of 5-gallon dispensers in areas within adequate proximity to filler station or water fountain
Connect remaining 5-gallon dispensers to local water lines
Eliminate sale of bottled water** on school grounds
Set guidelines for Food Service Department
Discontinue sale of bottled water in lunch lines and vending machines
Set guidelines for school stores
Discontinue sale of bottled water
Encourage sale of reusable bottles
Set guidelines for vending machines
Discontinue sale of bottled water
Install additional filler station in junior high cafeteria
